Iraq's North Refineries Company Plans $5 Billion Grassroot Kirkuk Refinery Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--In a bid to augment refining capacity, Iraq's major refiner, North Refineries Company (Baiji, Iraq), has rolled out a massive expansion project at the Kirkuk Refinery. The $5 billion project will increase production of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and asphalt.

As a part of capital grassroot addition program, several major units will be added, including a 150,000-barrel-per-day crude unit; a 60,000-BBL/d vacuum distillation unit; a 36,300-BBL/d hydrocracker unit; a 42,900-BBL/d naphtha hydrotreater; a 3,900-BBL/d blown asphalt unit; and 13,200-BBL/d isomerization unit, along with a sulfur recovery unit, amine regeneration unit, hydrogen generation unit and other associated offsite and utilities.

The project will also cater to current and future domestic demand by increasing the production volume of gasoline and diesel, along with high volumes of bitumen.

The Shaw Group (NYSE:SHAW) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) has secured a contract to provide the front-end-engineering and design (FEED) as well as project management services for the Kirkuk Refinery project.
