Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Iron Road Limited's (ASX:IRD) (Adelaide, South Australia) Central Eyre Magnetite Project is progressing with the recent completion of the company's $94 million (AUD$100 million) definitive feasibility study (DFS).
The DFS contains detailed cost estimates of the proposed port, rail and mine operations, which amount to approximately $3.74 billion (AUD$4 billion). The proposed magnetite mine is located 17 miles (28 kilometers) southeast of Wudinna, South Australia, and the proposed port is located at Cape Hardy, which is 4 miles (7 kilometres) south of Port Neill, South Australia. Utilities, such as power and rail, will link the mine and port sites.
The processing plant is designed to process 120 million to 140 million tons per year of ore, to produce 21.5 million tons per year of magnetite concentrate over a 25-year mine life. The plant would be modular in design and utilize SAG/Ball Milling with secondary and tertiary crushing, screening and gravity beneficiation.
The proposed processing plant, with other mine site facilities, is expected to cost $1.21 billion (AUD$1.3 billion). When the ore has been treated, it will be loaded onto Iron Road Limited's 91-mile (148-kilometer) rail line. The rail line will consist of continuous welded, standard-gauge, ballasted track and will cost about $740 million (AUD$790 million).
The rail line will transport the ore to the Cape Hardy Bulk Commodities Port, where it will be loaded onto Panamax and Cape-size vessels for export. The bulk commodities port will be capable of exporting 70 million tons per year of material and will consist of rail loops, train unloading facilities, dumpers, reclaimers, stockpile areas, stockyard machines, conveyors, a finger jetty and ship loaders. In total, the bulk commodities port is expected to cost about $460 million (AUD$490 million).
Other infrastructure requirements include 62 miles (100 kilometers) of 275-kilovolt (kV), single-circuit transmission line, which would run from the existing Yadnarie Power substation to the Central Eyre mine site, where a new substation would be built. The Central Eyre Project also would require the construction of three accommodation camps, of which two would be construction camps and one a permanent accommodation village. The construction camps would be located at both the mine and port facilities, and house 1,300 and 650 personnel, respectively. The long-term accommodation village would be located centrally in the town of Wudinna and house 250 to 300 personnel.
Iron Road Limited is expected to kick off construction on all aspects of the project in late 2015.
