Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Jiangsu Electric Power Construction No.1 Engineering Company (JEPC1) (Nanjing, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), kicked off the construction of Kailuan GCL Power Generation Company Limited's (Tangshan, Hebei) 600-megawatt (MW), coal gangue-fired cogeneration project at the Kailuan Guye Power Plant on November 18, 2013. This is the first thermal power project contracted to JEPC1 in the Hebei province, according to an announcement from the CEEC on the same day.
Kailuan Guye is a pithead power plant located in Tangjiazhuang, Guye District, in Tangshan City, in northern China's Hebei province. The power plant mainly uses low heat-value inferior coals, such as coal gangue, as its fuel in the Kailuan Mining Zone. As a resource comprehensive utilization project, the power plant also will use draining water from Kailuan Coal Mine as its water source.
The project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in April 2011. According to the approval, the project will be furnished with two 300-MW, air-cooling, extraction-condensing steam turbine generating units, with two 1,065-ton-per-hour, subcritical, single-reheat, circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers. Total investment in the project will be about $500 million.
In April 2013, Kailuan Group (Tangshan, Hebei) and Golden Concord Holdings Limited (Hong Kong) signed a joint venture agreement for the construction of the project. The engineering contract was awarded to North China Power Engineering Company Limited (Beijing).
JEPC1 won the construction and erection bid of the project through public bidding at the end of October 2013. According to the schedule, both units of the project begin operations in the first half of 2015. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply about 3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the grid and provide centralized heating for a total area of 12 million square meters by shutting down 17 small-size, coal-fired boilers within its service area.
