Mining Investments in China for First Eight Months of 2016 Drop 23.5% from Same Period in 2015
Mining investments in China totaled $95.61 billion during the first eight months of this year, down 23.5% from the same period last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Mining investments in China totaled $95.61 billion during the first eight months of this year, down 23.5% from the same period last year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China. The amount includes $57.33 billion in private-sector investments, down 19.6% from the same period of 2015.
Coal mining and washing investments from January to August 2016 were $26.82 billion, a drop of 33.0% year over year. Petroleum and natural gas investments were $20.99 billion, a drop of 30.2%. Investments in ore mining, smelting and pressing of ferrous metals totaled $10.07 billion, a drop of 30.1% year over year, while investments for mining, smelting and pressing of non-ferrous metal reached $14.74 billion, a drop of 3.7% from the same period of 2015. Investments for mining and processing of non-metallic minerals dropped 5.9% to $19.68 billion.
Private investment for the period included:
- $15.79 billion for coal mining and washing, down 29.9%
- $2.08 billion for extraction of petroleum and natural gas, down 21.4%
- $7.9 billion for mining, smelting and pressing of ferrous metals, down 36.7%
- $10.57 billion for mining, smelting and pressing of non-ferrous metals, down 7%
- $18.83 billion for mining and processing of non-metallic minerals, down 4.6%
Investments in primary-sector industries (agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, and oil and gas production) reached $178.33 billion, an increase of 21.5% over the same period of 2015. Investments in secondary industries (manufacturing, electricity, gas and water provision) were $2.2 trillion, an increase of 3%. Investments in tertiary industries (services) were $3.3 trillion, an increase of 11.2% year over year.
In the secondary industries, the investment in industrial manufacturing reached $1.8 trillion, an increase of 2.8%. Investments in the production and supply of electric power, heat power, gas and water reached $288.68 billion, an increase of 17.2% year over year. In the tertiary industries, the investment in infrastructure (excluding electric power, heat power, gas and water) reached $1.1 trillion, an increase of 19.7% year over year.
