Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pattern Energy (NASDAQ:PEGI) (San Francisco, California) recently began construction on a grassroot, 218-megawatt (MW) windfarm facility in the Panhandle region of northern Texas. The Panhandle Windfarm development has been divided into two phases.
Phase I will consist of 118 wind turbines of 1.85 MW each, provided by General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut). Some of the foundations have been poured and delivery of the wind turbines should commence shortly. When installation is complete and the windfarm is operational, it will produce 218 MW of renewable energy to the local grid system.
Phase II of the project will include 70 wind turbines supplied by Siemens AG (NYSE:SI). Each of these wind turbines will provide 2.3 MW at maximum capacity output. Construction on Phase II is expected to begin before the end of 2013. When completed, both phases will provide renewable green energy to the Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) transmission lines. As construction nears of the CREZ completion by the end of 2013, the Panhandle Wind Project will be able to interconnect their green energy produced to the CREZ lines by the end of 2014. The construction of the CREZ lines was crucial in the development of wind projects in Texas Panhandle.
