Written by Martin Lynch, European News Editor for Industrial Info (Galway, Ireland)--German wind turbine manufacturer Senvion SE (FWB:RPW) (Hamburg, Germany) has landed three onshore windfarm deals in Scotland and England.

With a combined generating capacity of 151 megawatts (MW), the three windfarms are being developed by Banks Renewables, part of family-owned The Banks Group (Durham, England). The group has permission to construct 12 onshore windfarms that, when all are built and operational, will generate more than 270 MW of electricity across sites in Scotland and the north of England. The three windfarms getting the go ahead were all successful in the U.K. government's first competitive Contracts for Difference (CfD) programme for onshore and offshore projects in 2015. This guarantees the developer a certain price for electricity produced over a fixed period of time.

Senvion, formerly known as REpower Systems, will supply 26 of its 3.4M104 turbines for Kype Muir Wind Farm, located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, and a further 15 Senvion 3.4M114 turbines for the nearby Middle Muir Wind Farm. Kype Muir will have an output of 88 MW and will produce enough electricity to power 62,000 homes each year, while Middle Muir will produce 51 MW and generate enough power for more than 33,000 homes. Middle Muir will be commissioned by 2018 and Kype Muir at the start of 2019.

The third project is the Moor House Wind Farm, which will use six Senvion MM100 turbines with a total rated output of 12 MW and will produce sufficient energy to power 9,000 homes. Turbine delivery will kick off in August and commissioning is expected to be completed early next year.

Richard Dunkley, Managing Director at Banks Renewables, added: "We have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Senvion. We are very pleased to be able to utilise their high-quality turbines and expert support services once again for these three landmark projects. Onshore wind in general and these projects in particular represent the best value for money to consumers as the government seeks to deliver on its climate change obligations, and it's exciting to now be accelerating the process of taking these wind farms forward."

Last October, Industrial Info reported on Senvion winning its first turbine contract in Norway, to supply 33 of its 3.4M114 turbines for the 112-MW Egersund windfarm. For additional information, see October 28, 2016, article--Senvion Lands First Windfarm Deal in Norway.
