Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sharon Ethanol LLC (Sharon, Wisconsin), a subsidiary of Global Renewable LLC (Whitewater, Wisconsin), has thrown in the towel on plans to construct an ethanol plant in Sharon. The company has been dissolved, and former president Jeffery Knight said, "I'm moving on to other things."
The estimated $230 million plant has been in the works since 2006, but the company became the victim of high corn prices and a dried-up credit market. The plant was expected to start construction in the fall of 2008 and begin production late last year, but the project did not go as planned.
Plans were to construct a 120 million-gallon-per-year fuel ethanol plant that would process 38 million bushels of locally grown corn annually, create new jobs and add to the tax base for the small town. The company was in talks with Applied Process Technologies International LLC (Williamsburg, Virginia) (formerly Delta-T Corporation), to provide the process technology.
Village planners are still hopeful that the empty Sharon Industrial Park, where Sharon Ethanol was to be the "anchor company," can secure tenants and move forward with the industrial park's development.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 177 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 145 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
