Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 56-megawatt (MW) Stillwater Energy Center began operations last week in Oklahoma following its completion by the City of Stillwater Electric Utility.
The center is using three Wartsila natural gas-fired reciprocating engines and will provide power for 39 cities and towns throughout the state. The facility will provide a source of grid stability, grid independence and economic growth in the local community. The center is ranked as one of the most efficient, clean burning, natural-gas fired, simple-cycle power plants in Oklahoma.
Construction of the facility began in July 2015. The site was chosen due to the location of an existing natural gas pipeline. It replaces the aging Boomer Lake Power Station.
The project had a total investment value of $70 million and engaged Burns & McDonnell (Kansas City, Missouri) as the general contractor.
