Swedish Refinery Preemraff Gothenburg Undergoing Planned Overhaul

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 210,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Preemraff Gotheburg refinery (Gothenburg, Sweden) is undergoing a maintenance shutdown. The plant is operated by Preem AB (Stockholm, Sweden), a wholly owned subsidiary of Corral Petroleum Holdings AB, which itself is owned by Moroncha Holdings Company Limited, a Cypriot company that is, in turn, wholly owned by Mr. Mohammed H. Al Amoudi.

The plant halted production August 31 for a planned shutdown, which was expected to last 15 non-production days. One of the main objectives of this turnaround was the regeneration of the reactor catalysts in the 24,000-BBL/d Catalytic Reformer Unit. After performing inspections, authorities have decided to extend the downtime period to perform necessary maintenance in other units. All units are expected to be brought back online at the beginning of October, after 35 days. The overhaul has affected the two crude distillation units, with a combined capacity of 126,000 BBL/d; the two 25,000-BBL/d naphtha desulfurization units; the mild hydrocracker unit; and the 11,300-BBL/d Isomerization unit, among others.

Preem AB owns two refineries in Sweden, Preemraff Gothenburg and the 220,000-BBL/d Preemraff Lysekil refinery, acquired by the group in 2003. Both facilities work in combination as a joint refinery, conducted by a joint management team. The two refineries process more than 18 million tons of crude oil per year.
