Vopak Acquires Terminal from ExxonMobil in North Carolina

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Vopak Terminal Wilmington Incorporated (Wilmington, North Carolina), a division of Vopak North America Incorporated (Houston, Texas), has acquired a chemical storage terminal from ExxonMobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) on the east bank of the Cape Fear River in Wilmington. Vopak North America is a division of Royal Vopak (Rotterdam, The Netherlands).

The terminal is Vopak's second terminal at the Port of Wilmington and will be called Vopak Terminal Wilmington South. While the terminal was owned by ExxonMobil, Vopak has been operating it since 1991. The terminal is capable of storing approximately 313,000 barrels of petroleum and chemical products (organic intermediates and inorganic chemicals) in seven storage tanks. The terminal can handle transporting products through tanker, barge, truck and rail. There are two rail-car-loading racks and a six-bay truck-loading rack. There is significant room for expansion at the terminal.

The acquisition adds substantial storage capacity to Vopak's operations at the Port of Wilmington. Vopak has owned and operated an 824,000-barrel terminal at the port. The terminal comprises 23 storage tanks, five rail-car-loading racks, three truck-loading racks and docking facilities for tankers and barges. It handles a variety of commodities, including chemicals, refined petroleum products, crude oil, liquid fertilizer, sulfur, and animal and vegetable oils.
