Venezuela's Phoenix Packaging Group to Construct Expandable Polystyrene Unit

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugarland, Texas)--Venezuela's Phoenix Packaging Group (Maracaibo, Venezuela) will construct a new expanded polystyrene unit at its petrochemical complex in Maracaibo, in the state of Zulia.

The Maracaibo petrochemical complex currently operates a 44,000-metric-ton-per-year polystyrene unit and now plans to construct the 20,000-metric-ton-per-year expandable polystyrene unit. At present, the company is evaluating technologies and will make a decision about which technology to use by the end of March. After this, Phoenix will select an engineering and procurement company to complete the detailed engineering of the unit. Construction of the unit is planned to kick off in December this year. The Phoenix Group will invest approximately $20 million in the project, which is planned to be completed in mid-2013.
