AltaGas Limited (TSX:ALA) announced that it has begun operations at its natural gas processing facility in British Columbia, in the Montney Shale.
Released Tuesday, October 03, 2017
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--AltaGas Limited (TSX:ALA) (Calgary, Alberta) announced that it has begun operations at its natural gas processing facility in British Columbia, in the Montney Shale. The plant has a processing capacity of 99 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF/d) of natural gas and was constructed next to the existing 198-MMSCF/d Townsend site. The facility is expected to gradually ramp up production into the first quarter of 2018. Industrial Info is tracking $2.3 billion in active AltaGas projects.
Construction on the facility began in the first half of this year, and commissioning was completed over the weekend. EPFC Corporation (Calgary, Alberta) provided engineering, procurement and construction for the facility. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
AltaGas is in the planning stage for a potential expansion of the site to add another 99 MMSF/d of processing capacity. Construction could begin in the first half of 2019, taking less than a year to complete. "Our Townsend Gas Processing Complex is at the heart of our northeast British Columbia strategy, and the safe commissioning of Townsend 2A marks the second stage of development at the complex, with permitting in place to increase by a further 99 MMSCF/d," said AltaGas Chief Executive Officer David Harris in a press release. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
AltaGas also gave updates on two of its projects in northeastern British Columbia: the 10,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) North Pine natural gas liquids (NGL) separation facility and the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal.
Construction on the North Pine NGL production plant began this summer and is expected to be completed before the end of the year. The facility will have an intake capacity of 110 MMSCF/d of natural gas to produce 10,000 BBL/d of NGL and 6,000 BBL/d of condensate. EPFC is acting as a contractor on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $135 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. A second train is being planned for the facility, which could double NGL production from the plant. Construction on the second train could kick off next year, for completion by the end of 2018. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Among AltaGas' largest projects is the Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal (RIPET) in British Columbia. The facility will receive liquid propane from British Columbia and Alberta via an existing Canadian National Railway (NYSE:CNI) (Montreal, Quebec) rail line and will have a throughput capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year. Construction on the facility began recently and is expected to be completed in early 2019. "At RIPET, construction continues to progress with the third of eight concrete pours underway and the final pour scheduled near the end of the 2017," said AltaGas. "As construction, progresses at RIPET, AltGas is seeing increased interest from western Canadian producers and aggregators looking for new access to premium Asian markets for their propane."
