Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Brigadier Lopez thermoelectric power station, currently under construction in Argentina's Sante Fe province, will start operations in 2012, according to an announcement made by the national authorities during the inaugural ceremony of the 840-megawatt General San Martin thermoelectric plant in the same province.
The Brigadier Lopez facility is being constructed by a consortium formed of Isolux (Madrid, Spain), Siemens (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) and Argentina's Iecsa (Buenos Aires) at the Sauce Viejo industrial complex in Santa Fe. Construction commenced in April 2010, and completion is projected for the end of 2012.
The plant will be equipped with two high-efficiency gas turbines manufactured by Siemens, and will burn natural gas and diesel oil as secondary fuel, with the capacity to convert to combined-cycle operation by the addition of two heat-recovery steam generators and a steam turbine.
This new capacity, which adds to the recently inaugurated Central Termoelectrica General Jose de San Martin in Timbues and the Manuel Belgrano facility in Campana, which have a combined capacity of 1,640 MW, aims to satisfy the increasing power demand, particularly in the summer months. The projects will contribute to Argentina's economic growth, which has boosted power demand in the past few years.
