Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--While the cost of initiating a major resource project in Australia is on the rise, ATCO Structures & Logistics Pty Limited has opened a new manufacturing plant south of Perth, Western Australia. Industry leaders are believed to be happy with the move.
The 150,000-square-foot plant, located in Kwinana, is one of six that ATCO operates around the country. State-of-the-art and highly automated, the plant has a workforce of about 100 when running at full capacity.
"The Kwinana plant will expand ATCO's manufacturing capacity in Australia and help us meet the growing demand for our products and services in the country, especially for large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) and mining infrastructure projects," said Adam Beattie, the managing director of ATCO. "We see great opportunity in Western Australia and are committed to the region for the long term. ATCO will work with the local community to hire skilled tradespeople and production workers, ensuring that the Kwinana area fully benefits from ATCO's presence."
Although the plant officially opened on October 24, it is already manufacturing modular buildings for the Wheatstone LNG Project in Onslow, Western Australia. It was awarded the contract by Chevron Australia, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) (San Ramon, California).
When complete, the modular units will be taken by road to the nearby Australian Marine Complex in Henderson, Western Australia, where they will be transferred to a ship that will be headed to the Wheatstone Project, in Western Australia's far north.
Representatives from Industrial Info's Oceania office in Perth, Western Australia, attended the opening ceremony of the facility. Also in attendance were industry leaders from the oil & gas sector, members of the local press, members of Parliament, and senior executives from ATCO, including Nancy Southern, the chairperson, president and CEO of the ATCO Group.
ATCO, an Australian subsidiary of ATCO Group (TSX:ACO-X) (Alberta, Canada), has been operating in Australia since 1961.
