Barrel O' Fun Snack Foods Investing $14 Million to Expand Minnesota Plant

Privately held snack food producer, Barrel O' Fun Snack Foods Company (Perham, Minnesota) is making a $14 million investment in their Perham, Minnesota to expand capacity (PEC 30000710). Currently, the company is completing the finishing touches on a 104,000 square foot building addition that was constructed by Hammers Construction (Perham, Minnesota) and plans are to install additional production and packaging lines to increase production of potato chips and cheese snack products.
The equipment for the new production lines are expected to begin arriving on-site by the end of the month and internal renovations to the existing plant area will begin as well. The plant's old production area will be converted into a new warehouse once the equipment is relocated and installed.
Completion and start-up of the expansion are projected for June of 2004.
The plant is located at 800 4th Street in Perham, Minnesota about 60 miles southeast of Fargo, North Dakota in Otter Tail County and currently employs about 330 staff.
Barrel O' Fun began in the spring of 1973 by the father and son team of Tuffy and Ken Nelson at Perham, Minnesota. The company began with approximately ten employees and produced potato chips, extruded cheese curls, and popcorn. The company produces a wide variety of salty snack items, in a wide variety of flavors and sizes.
