Chile's Hidroangol Seeks Financing for Hydropower Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Hidroangol (Santiago, Chile), a subsidiary of Idroenegia, and Sustentable CL S.A. (Providencia, Chile) are continuing with detailed engineering for their Rio Picoiquen 19-megawatt (MW) hydropower station project. Since all environmental permits required have been granted to Hidroangol, the project managers are planning to begin the financing process this month.

When the detailed engineering is completed by July 2011, project officials expect to release requests for qualifications and bid documents. As Hidroangol is an equipment manufacturer, the company will be in charge of electromechanical and equipment supply and installation, leaving civil works, such as charge and discharge chambers, the powerhouse and piping, for the subcontractors.

The facility will be equipped with two hydraulic turbines and will be in the Araucania region.

Construction is expected to begin in December this year, and commissioning is set for the first quarter of 2013.

Hidrobonito S.A., another Idroenergia subsidiary, is developing a 12-MW, run-of-river hydropower complex in the Los Lagos region that is in a preliminary phase, conducting environmental impact studies. This facility will be equipped with four hydraulic turbines and will be commissioned by 2014.
