Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit (Unit 1) of Datang Xinjiang Energy Company Limited's (Urumqi, Xinjiang) Hutubi Thermal Power Plant passed a 168-hour, continuous, full-load trial operation on November 12, 2013. The first coal-fired power project invested in Xinjiang by China Datang Corporation (Beijing), one of the top five power producers in China, has begun operations, according to an announcement from China Datang Corporation on November 14.

The plant is one of the key projects listed in the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10) for the Xinjiang autonomous region. The project has five features in its design:
  • It is the first indirect air-cooling unit built by China Datang Corporation in a cold area, which could save about 70% of water consumption compared with conventional tower cooling.
  • It is the first project adopted with single-line layout for auxiliary equipment in China, which simplified the process, reduced land occupation, and reduced the cost.
  • It is the first 300-MW unit adopted in China with a glass steel liner for the chimney, which could effectively reduce internal erosion and reduce the initial cost.
  • It includes a high-efficiency, flue-gas desulfuration device, a nitrogen oxide control device, and a bag-type dust-removing technology with desulfuration efficiency of more than 96%, denitration efficiency of more than 75%, and dust-removing efficiency of more than 99.5%.
  • It includes proven technologies such as ion oil-free ignition, frequency conversion speed regulation, dry type dust-removing, and slag disposal.
According to plans, the project is furnished with two 300-megawatt (MW) cogeneration units in its initial stage. Construction of Phase I kicked off in 2011. So far, the second unit (Unit 2) of the project is also entered into its final commissioning stage and is expected to begin operations at the end of 2013. Upon completion, the project will replace more than 140 small and middle-sized heating boilers scattered in Hutubi County, which could save about 337,000 metric tons of standard coal, and effectively reduce the emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and scoot.
