China Gezhouba Group Wins Civil Construction Bid for Shenzhen Pumped-Storage Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China Gezhouba Group No. 2 Engineering Company Limited (Yichang, Hubei) won the civil construction bid for the water diversion system and powerhouse system (Bid I) of China Southern Power Grid Corporation's (Guangzhou, Guangdong) Shenzhen pumped-storage power station through public bidding recently, according to China Gezhouba Group Corporation Limited (Yichang, Hubei), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (Beijing).

The Shenzhen pumped-storage power station is located at the boundary of the Yantian and Longgang districts in the northeast of Shenzhen city, which is about 20 kilometers to Shenzhen downtown. The power station has a total installed capacity of 1,200 megawatts (MW), and includes four 300-MW hydraulic turbine-reversible pumped-storage units.

The entire project has a total investment value of about $790 million. The Peak and Frequency Regulation Power Generation Company, a subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid, is responsible for the development and future operation of the project. Guangdong Hydropower Planning & Design Institute (Guangzhou, Guangdong) is responsible for the design and engineering of the project.

The project received official approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in November 2011. Mandated by China Southern Power Grid, Guangzhou Electric Power Engineering Supervision Company Limited (Guangzhou, Guangdong) issued the invitation for bids on civil contractors for the Water Diversion System and Powerhouse System (Bid I) and the Upper Reservoir (Bid II) at the beginning of January 2012.

According to the bidding document, the total construction period for Bid I will be 42 months. Construction of the project will greatly alleviate the increasing pressure on power consumption in Shenzhen and neighboring areas.
