Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--In order to accelerate the development of the rich wind energy resources in the Dangjinshan area, Gansu Huadian Dangjinshan Wind Power Company Limited's (Jiuquan, Gansu) Akesai Dangjinshan Windfarm Phase II expansion recently received preliminary approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Gansu province to begin pre-stage preparation, China Huadian New Energy Development Company Limited (Beijing) announced on May 16.
Akesai Dangjinshan Windfarm is in a desert area in Jiuquan City. The windfarm is China's first plateau-demonstrative windfarm in an extreme-cold area. The Phase I project, which includes 33 turbines, each of 1.5 megawatt (MW), received final approval in October 2010. Construction of Phase I began in December 2010. So far, China Huadian has completed a total investment of $48 million, and 30 turbine towers have been shipped to the site, 20 of which have been placed into their final positions. The associated 110-kilovolt (kV) transmission line from Dangjinshan to Akesai downtown, which is about 70 kilometers away, is under construction. The Phase I project is expected to begin operations at the end of August 2011.
The Phase II expansion project covers an area of about 12.5 square kilometers in Dangjinshan plateau, and the installed capacity will be the same as Phase I. The expansion project will use the 110-kV substation and transmission line built in Phase I for grid connection. So far, the owner, together with its tendering agent, is performing purchasing. According to the schedule, the first batch of turbines is expected to begin operation by the end of this year.
