According to the monthly report on the power industry published by China Electricity Council on July 20, 2007, the overall power consumption of China reached 1,514.954 billion kWh in the first half of this year, an increase of 15.56% when compared with the same period of the previous year. Among them, the power consumption in the agriculture industry (plantations, forestry, livestock raising and fisheries) reached 39.31 billion kWh, an increase of 2.67%. Power consumption for construction, manufacturing, and energy production (power, gas and water) reached 1,166.386 billion kWh, an increase of 17.18%. Power consumption in the service and transportation industry reached 145.125 billion kWh, an increase of 12.16%. Power consumption in urban and township residents life reached 164.133 billion kWh, an increase of 10.97%.
In the first half of this year, the overall power consumption of the industrial sector reached 1,152.066 billion kWh, an increase of 17.20% when compared with the same period of the previous year. Among them, the increase in light and heavy industry is 10.39% and 18.84%, respectively.
There are a total fifteen provinces and regions with an increase above the national average level (15.56%), where Inner Mongolia topped in the ranking (34.02%), followed by Yunnan (25.28%), Ningxia (24.78%), Shanxi (21.90%), and Hainan (21.86%).
According to the National Statistics Bureau, national power output in the first half of this year reached 1,485.031 billion kWh, an increase of 16% compared with the same period of the previous year. Among them, the power output of hydropower reached 175.168 billion kWh, an increase of 1.7%; thermal power 1,277.73 billion kWh, an increase of 18.3 % and nuclear power 26.53 billion kWh, an increase of 3.7%. Power generation output dispatched by major grids nationwide reached 1,291.219 billion kWh, an increase of 17.75%, and the maximum load reached 408.14 million kW, an increase of 16.98% compared with the same period of the previous year.
In the first half of this year, the average accumulated utilization hour of power generation equipment in power plants producing 60 megawatts or above is 2,437 hours, a decrease of 100 hours compared with the same period of the previous year. The average utilization hour of hydropower equipment is 1,487 hours, a decrease of 158 hours and the average utilization hour of thermal power equipment is 2,638 hours, a decrease of 103 hours.
In the first half this year, the average coal consumption uses for the national power supply is 356 g/kWh, a decrease of 8 g/kWh compared with the same period of the previous year.
