Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Guodian Corporation (Beijing, China), with subsidiary China Longyuan Electric Power Group Corporation (HKG:0916) (Beijing, China), is planning to build a new windfarm near Chuzhou in China's Anhui province.
Baoshan Windfarm Power Station will be located 47 kilometers northeast of Chuzhou, approximately 900 kilometers south of Beijing and not far from the coast of the East China Sea. The new power station is part of the Anhui Province Planned Wind Energy Development Project, which calls for the installation of 247.5 megawatts (MW).
By the end of 2009, China had more than 20 gigawatts of installed wind-generated electricity, making it the largest wind power producer after the United States. Studies conducted by both Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts) and Tsinghua University (Beijing) have revealed that China would be able to meet all of its electricity needs through wind power by 2030 if the country's wind power station growth rate continued on the same path. Currently, China has 80 windfarms. Of these, Guodian operates 32, accounting for 30% of the wind power produced in the country. Guodian is one of China's top five energy producers and is directed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
Guodian plans to kick off construction of the $115 million Baoshan Windfarm Power Station in September, which is scheduled to be finished in February 2011. Construction will involve the installation of (33) turbines, each with capacities of 1.5 MW, producing a total of 49.5 MW to be routed into the regional grid. As of now, Guodian is selecting a turbine manufacturer from a shortlist comprised of Xinjiang Goldwind Science and Technology Company (SHE: 002202) (Urumqi, China), Sinovel Wind Company Limited (Beijing), and Vestas Wind Systems (Randers, Denmark).
