Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--After successfully acquiring the former Western Biodiesel Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta) refinery in Aldersyde, Alberta, start-up clean tech pioneer Cielo Waste Solutions Corporation (Vancouver, British Columbia) is moving forward with development of its first commercial production facility.
With the help of a non-brokered private placement offering of up to C$7 million in debentures, the company purchased the biofuel refinery for a sum of C$2.3 million and plans to have the estimated C$6 million-plus plant producing renewable diesel transportation fuel by the end of 2017.
The environmentally advanced technology facility will take in municipal solid waste and wood shaving streams and process the material into an estimated 8.3 million liters per year of G2 renewable diesel.
Cielo secured contractors Advanced Metal Limited (Lethbridge, Alberta) for equipment fabrication from its new fab shop near the site, Kwik Fab Energy Services (Sundre, Alberta) to set up the equipment and electrics, and instrumentation contractor Electech Contracting Limited (Lewisberry, Pennsylvania) to hook up the process equipment wiring and control components.
Construction is expected to be in full swing by March of this year, after the frigid weather in the region begins to dissipate. Some of the equipment left from the Western Biodiesel plant, which was built in 2009 for an estimated $10.2 million, will be retrofitted and put back into production.
This first-of-its-kind plant will have the capacity of producing 18,000 liters of biofuel for every two tons of waste input. Cielo's technology will divert waste from landfills and extend landfill life while creating a renewable "green" biofuel, as well as creating approximately 24 new jobs in the region.
