City of Tallahassee Begins Construction of $150 Million Repowering Project at the Arvah B Hopkins Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The City of Tallahassee has started construction on the $150 Million 160-Megawatt repowering project at the Arvah B Hopkins Power Station in Tallahassee, Florida.

Construction started earlier this month and is scheduled for commercial start-up during the spring of 2008. The project will consist of adding a 160-megawatt GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbine generator and a Nooter/Ericksen heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) to the existing facility. The new unit will operate in a combined-cycle configuration in conjunction with a 260-megawatt Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation steam turbine generator already at the Hopkins plant.

Sargent & Lundy LLC (Chicago, Illinois) is providing the engineering services for the project, while BE&K Construction (Birmingham, Alabama) will act as the general contractor for the project.
