Construction Begins on Xcel Energy Transmission Line Project in Minnesota

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On October 1, 2011, Xcel Energy Incorporated (NYSE:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) began construction on Pleasant Valley to Byron Transmission Project. When completed, an 18-mile, 161-kilovolt transmission line will run between the Pleasant Valley and Byron substations.

As of now, this is estimated to be a six-month project with a target completion date of March 31, 2012. A month into the project, engineers are doing the foundation work and will place new circuit breakers, buswork, poles, transformers and switches. When this transmission line is operational, it will provide support to the operational windfarms in the nearby Minnesota counties of Mower and Olmstead.
