Construction for Two 600 MW Units in Phase III of Huadian Pucheng Power Started in Shaanxi

The cornerstone laying ceremony for the construction of two 600-megawatt (MW) Units in the Phase III Project of Huadian Pucheng Power Generation Company Limited (Pucheng Power) (Shaanxi, China) was held at Pucheng city in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province on June 20, 2007. Deputy governor of Shaanxi province, Zhao Zhengyong, and vice president of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing, China), Ren Shuhui, attended and addressed the ceremony.

The Phase III project includes construction of two 600 MW air-cooled supercritical coal-fired power-generating units, with a total investment of $680 million. Both units are expected to put into operation in the end of 2008. The unit adopted in the Phase III Project is featured with energy-saving and environmental protection. It could save 70% of water consumption compared with a water-cooled coal-fired unit. The project will also be furnished with advanced desulfurization scrubber. Upon the completion of the Phase III Project, the total installation capacity of Pucheng Power will be 2,640 MW, annual power output will be more than 14 billion kWh, and become the largest thermal power enterprise in Northwest China.

China Huadian Corporation has participated into the construction of power industry in Shaanxi province actively in recent years. The construction of the Phase III Project will greatly alleviate the contradiction between power supply and demand in Shaanxi province, further optimize the power structure in the Northwest Grid, and provide a strong power guarantee in building Shaanxi into a strong province in West China, according to Zhao Zhengyong in his address.

The Phase III Project is the first power project built by China Huadian Corporation in Shaanxi province under the new approval system, and also a large thermal power project listed in the “eleventh five-year plan” (2006-2010) of Shaanxi province. Pucheng Power will do its best to ensure the operation of both units in 2008, said by Ren Shuhui in the ceremony.
