Construction Starts on Wyoming Coal-Fired Power Project
The new $169 million plant is the third 90-megawatt facility sited at the companys coal mine and energy complex and is expected to be completed in 2008.

Black Hills Corporation (NYSE:BKH) (Rapid City, South Dakota) has commenced construction of the 90-megawatt Wygen II Power Project near Gillette, Wyoming. On August 17, 2005, the Wyoming Public Service Commission issued a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the baseload coal-fired power plant. Wygen II is expected to be a regulated asset of Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power, a subsidiary of Black Hills Corporation.
The engineering and construction firm selected for Wygen II is The Babcock & Wilcox Company (Barberton, Ohio), an operating unit of McDermott International (NYSE:MDR) (Houston, Texas). As part of the project, Babcock & Wilcox is designing a system utilizing activated carbon and calcium chloride catalyst to reduce mercury emissions by 60-percent. Wygen II is the first new coal-fired power plant in the United States required to install mercury reduction controls.
