Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Moves Forward with $1.9 Billion Refinery Expansion in Canada

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Limited (CCRL) is progressing with its $1.9 billion refinery expansion in Regina, Saskatchewan. The project will increase the refinery's capacity by 30% to 130,000 barrels per day (BPD) to process additional crude oil. Construction is expected to begin in early 2009 and finish by 2011. CCRL has selected International Alliance Group (Houston, Texas) as the project management contractor for the construction of the new units and Mustang Engineering (Houston) to perform engineering and procurement for the new units. Colt Engineering (Markham, Ontario) is performing engineering, procurement and construction for the revamp units involved with the expansion.

The expansion will involve several new units: 30,000 BPD fluid catalytic cracker unit, polymerization unit, merox unit and offsite utilities work. In addition, the revamp will include modifications to the distillate hydrotreater, hydrocracker unit, reformer, gasoline hydrotreater, isomerization unit and saturated gas unit. The existing processing units will be revamped to give the unit a higher throughput. The total investment to modify the existing units will be an estimated $400 million.

CCRL was founded in April 1934. CCRL is a subsidiary of Federated Co-operative Limited (FCL), which owns and operates the refinery in Saskatchewan. The refinery employs more than 530 employees and is located on 544 acres of land in North Regina. The refinery upgrader complex currently processes about 100,000 BPD of crude oil.
