Researched by Industrial Info Research Latin America (Córdoba, Argentina)--CVG Bauxilum CA (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela), the state-owned company managed by the Corporacion Venezolana de Guayana (CVG), with the Aluminum Corporation of China (NYSE:ACH) (CHINALCO) through its subsidiary Chalieco, is working on a technical and commercial proposal for the upgrade and expansion project of its bauxite mine, located in Los Pijiguaos, in the Bolivar county in northern Venezuela.

The first stage of the project, worth $45 million, consists of the revamp and upgrade of the existing facilities in order to reach the installed capacity of 6 million tons per year of bauxite ore. Due to an energetic crisis that has affected the country over the last few years, the mine has been working at half capacity, producing less than 3 million tons of bauxite. The main works are focused on technological optimization.

Once the installed capacity is reached, CVG Bauxilum plans a $50 million expansion in order to increase production capacity to 9 million tons per year.

CVG Bauxilum is a state-owned company that manages the Los Pijiguajos Bauxite Mine and an alumina-processing plant with a capacity of 2 million tons of alumina per year. Most of CVG Bauxilum production is used in the domestic market, basically to provide other state-owned companies of the CVG Group.

CHINALCO is the world's second-largest alumina producer and the third-largest primary aluminum producer. It has a worldwide presence and is committed to become an international polymetallic mining company.
