East China's Jiangsu Province to Expand Installed Capacity to 110 Gigawatts by 2015

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Eastern China's Jiangsu province is planning to expand its installed capacity to 110 gigawatts (GW) by 2015. Renewable energy will account for about 7% of the total, according to an outline in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) for Jiangsu, as recently published by the Jiangsu government.

During the 11th Five-Year Plan, about 21.5 GW was added to the installed capacity of electric power in Jiangsu, including about 4 GW of new energy, such as wind power and nuclear power. As a large consumer of resources, Jiangsu has an urgent task to alleviate a bottleneck in resources by building an energy saving and environmentally friendly society over the next five years, according to the planning outline.

During the 12th Five-Year Plan, Jiangsu will aim for a breakthrough achievement in 100 core and key technologies, including five in offshore wind turbine manufacturing; five in photovoltaic cells; five in the nuclear and biomass energy sectors; and five in power battery and new energy vehicles.

While attaching importance to the construction of research, development, manufacture and application demonstration bases in the new energy industry, priority will be given to wind power development. While continually promoting the construction of key onshore windfarms, the construction of offshore windfarm demonstrative projects and concession projects will be accelerated. By 2015, its installed capacity of wind power will reach 6 GW.

In the nuclear power sector, while accelerating the construction of Tianwan Nuclear Power Station in Lianyungang City, the province will promote the construction of the second nuclear power station in Jiangsu. By 2015, its installed capacity of nuclear power will reach 4 GW.
