Enap to Modify Gregorio Refinery's Topping Unit in Chile

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chile's state-owned oil company has called for bids for the modification of its Gregorio refinery's topping unit on the coast of Magellan Strait in Chile.

Enap has three refineries in the country: Aconcagua, Bio Bio and Gregorio. The Gregorio refinery began operating in September 1980 and has a topping unit with a production capacity of 2,400 cubic meters per day.

The topping revamp at Gregorio refinery aims to process heavier crude oil by increasing the installed pumping power and heat recovery. Gregorio authorities said they plan to add two new exchangers, install a new pump, relocate the air cooler and also perform piping, power and equipment interconnection. Basic and detailed engineering of the project has been performed. Companies that have presented bids visited the plant on November 14, 2007. Enap will announce selected company the first week of December 2007. Construction work will be performed in two phases - the first one during the five-mechanical-day turnaround planned for January 2008 and another 30-days shutdown in April 2008. The project is expected to be finished by the second week of May 2008.
