Exploited Reserve of Coal Resources Reached 88.9 Billion Tons in Xinjiang Zhundong Coalfield

The exploited reserve of coal resources in Xinjiang Zhundong Coalfield reached 88.9 billion metric tons at present, announced by the National Land Resources Department of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Following the launching on the construction of the local coal power and chemical industry complex, Zhundong Coalfield will play an active function in accelerating the implementation of the advantageous resources converting strategy currently carried out in Northwest Chinas Xinjiang Region, namely to convert the advantage in resources into an economic advantage.
Zhundong Coalfield is located at Changji Hui Nationality Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Region in an area of about 21,800 square kilometers. The coalfield is simple and stable in coal layer structure, high in thickness and good in quality. Among the 88.9 billion metric tons of exploited reserve, verified reserve reached 47 billion metric tons, and pre-verified reserve reached 41 billion metric tons. Coal production areas at present mainly include coalmines such as Lucaogou, Dajing and Jiangjunmiao. Zhundong Coalfield is currently an important coal power and chemical industry base in Xinjiang Region.
In recent years, there were a total of 25 domestic enterprises that started geological surveys at Zhundong Coalfield one after another, including thirteen large and middle-sized enterprise groups such as Luneng Group (Shangdong, China) and China ShenHua Group Company, Limited (Beijing, China). By the end of June 2007, there were a total of 125 exploration rights set up in Zhundong Coalfield according to law. The registered exploitation plot area reached 4,235 square kilometers, with $53 million of exploitation funds expected to be invested. The government of Xinjiang Autonomous Region also plans to invest $790 million to enhance the construction of infrastructure, such as transportation, water and power supply and communication, in the Zhundong Coal Power and Chemical Industry Base, where construction of the water diversion project for the base officially started on June 19, 2006.
