ExxonMobil Chemical Company, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas), is planning a major expansion at their Baton Rouge, Louisiana Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) plant for an estimated $80 million. The objective of this project is to substantially increase production capacity of IPA by 160 million pounds per year, which would increase IPA production from 766 million pounds per year to 926 million pounds per year. The last IPA expansion of the Baton Rouge plant that was reported by Industrialinfo.com was in 2001 and was completed in 2002 for approximately half the TIV of this upcoming expansion.
ExxonMobil recently completed a major control systems upgrade project at the Baton Rouge plant. The control project cost an estimated $40 million and consisted of replacing six of their PMX Honeywell TDC-2000 control systems with new and updated technology.
