First Wind Holdings Completes 40-Megawatt Sheffield Windfarm in Vermont

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--First Wind Holdings Incorporated (Newton, Massachusetts) has started operations of the 40-megawatt (MW) Sheffield Windfarm in Caledonia County, Vermont. The windfarm provides electricity through Vermont Electric Power Company Incorporated (Rutland, Vermont) to three Vermont utilities:

  • Burlington Electric Department (Burlington , Vermont)
  • Vermont Electric Cooperative Incorporated (Johnson, Vermont)
  • Washington Electric Cooperative (East Montpelier, Vermont)
The windfarm consists of 16 Clipper Wind 2.5-MW wind turbine generators: four C96 models and 12 C93 models. It was constructed by engineering, procurement and construction contractor RMT Incorporated (Madison, Wisconsin) with the assistance of several Vermont-based business and contractors including:

  • Carroll Concrete (Saint Johnsbury)
  • Deter Security (Rutland)
  • J.A. McDonald Incorporated (Lyndon Center)
  • J.P. Sicard Incorporated Excavating (Barton)
First Wind currently has more than 730 MW of operational wind power in five states: Hawaii, Maine, New York, Vermont and Utah. The company also has more than 1,740 MW in planning, engineering or under construction in Hawaii, New York, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
