Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) GE Energy (NYSE:GE ) (Fairfield, Connecticut) has recently signed contracts on the Iberian peninsula to supply a turnkey combined cycle power project in Portugal and two aeroderivative gas turbines to meet the power requirements of paper companies in Spain.
The 860 MW EDP Producao (Energias de Portugal) power station at Lares will be based on two GE 109FB combined cycle systems. Each of the two single shaft, combined cycle blocks will include a Frame 9FB gas turbine, a 450H generator, an A15 steam turbine, a heat recovery steam generator and a distributed control system. The order is the first application of GEs 9FB gas turbine technology in Portugal. The Lares project is a cornerstone of EDPs 2007/10 strategic plan to secure energy supply in Portugal and the use of GEs advanced turbine technology will reduce emission per MW hour by more than 20% and aid EDPs emission reduction plan.
Consortium partners in the project, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicos of Spain and CME of Portugal will provide integrated engineering, balance-of-plant equipment, site civil work, equipment installation and erection activities.
GE Energy has also signed a 12 year contractual service agreement with EDP which will provide predictable maintenance costs and guaranteed outage durations and plant performance. GE will lead EPC (engineering+procurement+construction) activities over the 26 month project schedule. The plant is scheduled to enter commercial operation in the second half of 2009.
A LM2500+PR aeroderivative gas turbine generator will be supplied to Spains Cogeneracion UFIC for the UIPSA paper mill near Barcelona. The turbine will operate in the paper mill facility where steam supply is a key factor. The unit has an evaporative cooler and a dry low emissions combustion system for NOx abatement down to 50 mg/Nm3 and will be fueled by pipeline quality natural gas. The unit will be supported by a six year contractual service agreement. The unit will provide 28 MW of electrical power at site conditions and 15C ambient temperature. The combined cycle plant generates a total of 35 MW of power and will be shipped in September 2007 with commercial operation planned for February 2009.
Spains Papelera Guipuzcoana de Zicunaga has signed a contract for LM6000-PD Sprint aeroderivative gas turbine generator for its paper mill in Hernani. A 12 year contractual service agreement with full coverage and availability guarantee is under negotiation.
