Southern Company Services Incorporated (NYSE: SO) (Birmingham, Alabama), a subsidiary of The Southern Company (Atlanta, Georgia), is installing selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units on regulated utility sister company Georgia Power Company's (Atlanta, Georgia) Wansley Power Station units 1 and 2 in Roopville, Georgia. Each unit is rated at 952-megawatts (MW).
Georgia Power is having Southern Company Services install the SCR units on two (2) ABB/CE coal tangential-fired supercritical dry bottom boilers (6.46MM lb/hr, 3,625psig @ 1000F) to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions to meet state and federal regulations during a 5+ week maintenance outage. Unit 1 is in the process of being tied in now and Unit 2 will be tied in during an outage in January 2003.
