Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 160,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Rheinland Wesseling Refinery (South Site), located in the city of Wesseling in the state of North Rhine-Westfalia in Germany, is currently undergoing a 30-day planned turnaround in the facility's Distillation Area. The plant is owned and operated by Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH (Hamburg, Germany), a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands).
The planned turnaround entails maintenance and inspection work on the Distillation Area's 12 processing units, including the 160,000-BBL/d Crude Distillation Unit 3, Vacuum Unit 4, 32,000-BBL/d FCCU, 42,799-BBL/d Hydrocracker Unit, Naphtha Desulphurization, the Alkylation unit and others. According to information disclosed by the refinery, units are scheduled to restart operations by March 29.
The refinery was formed in 2002 from the merger of a refinery in Wesseling, operated by the German oil refiner then known as RWE DEA AG (Hamburg, Germany), and Shell's refinery in Cologne-Godorf. RWE DEA is now part of RWE AG (OTC:RWEOY) (Essen, Germany). Today the two refineries are operated by Shell Deutschland Oil GmBH, Shell's local subsidiary.
