Grupo TGM and HPB SIMISA to Supply Sao Martinho Power Expansion Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Brazil's Sao Martinho SA (Pradopolis, Sao Paulo), a producer of sugar and ethanol, has awarded equipment manufacturers TGM and HPB SIMISA a contract to provide a turbine and a boiler, respectively, to increase power plant generation capacity.

The project's total investment cost is estimated to be $45 million. The project consists of the addition of an HPB SIMISA biomass-fired boiler, which will drive a 40-megawatt (MW) TGM Steam Turbine. Finder Components Ltda (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Sao Paulo) will install the boiler. Turbine installation is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2012 and the generating unit will be operational in early 2013. The energy produced will be used to power the plant. Excess power will be sold to the national grid. After the project is completed, the plant will be able to produce 73 MW of electricity.

The Pradopolis sugar plant is located in the state of Sao Paulo. The facility began operating in 1948, and it has a capacity to manufacture 45,000 metric tons of sugar and 440,000 gallons of ethanol per day. At present, approximately 1,200 people work at the facility during the crushing season.
