Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Honeywell (NYSE:HON) (Morris Township, New Jersey) is expanding its presence in Southern and East Africa as part of a strategy to accelerate the companys growth across the African region by opening new offices and through partnership agreements with local companies.
A new office has been opened in Angola on the southwest coast of the continent where an Angolan, Castodio dos Santos, will manage day-to-day operations and develop new business in the resource rich country. Honeywell has made a long-term commitment to provide support and technology to drive production in the oil and gas industries. Currently, Angola produces 800,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas per annum. Vast untapped reserves of oil and gas remain to be exploited and by 2010, the country has the potential to increase its oil production capacity to 1.5 million bpd and gas production to 4 trillion cubic feet per annum.
Jason Whitehead, GM of Honeywell Process Solutions (Phoenix, Arizona) Southern Africa, said at the companys regional headquarters in Johannesburg, that the establishment of a formal presence in Angola was a logical progression in the companys growth strategy for the region. The Angolan oil and gas industry has great potential and Honeywells global capabilities and technological expertise, combined with our unique local knowledge, will be fundamental to the success of our operation."
Honeywell will enhance its service capabilities in Angola by rolling out a localization strategy and utilizing local expertise to deliver consistent service to customers.
In the eastern African country of Kenya, Honeywell has struck a partnership agreement with local Nairobi-based company Pegrume Group to provide a strong industrial security capability to the country. World-class solutions will be delivered to a wide range of commercial businesses and public sector organizations. A particular focus will be on port-of-entry security solutions at airports and seaports in a country that is one of Africas top tourist destinations.
Whitehead said that the East African market had great potential, but the safety and security of both the local population and tourist was critical for further investments in the region. Combining Honeywells technological expertise with the local knowledge brought by the Pegrume Group would ensure successful expansion. Pegrume is a subsidiary of Core Technologies Group, which has significant market share in the information and technology sector in Kenya.
