Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Huaibei Pingshan Power Plant's 1,320-megawatt (MW), grassroot, coal-fired project recently received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), according to an announcement from Shenergy Limited (Shanghai) (SH.600642) on November 14, 2013.
The plant is located in Pingshan Village, in Gurao Town of Lieshan District of Huaibei City, in central China's Anhui province. The power plant is one of the main power source projects in the nation's program to transmitt power from Anhui to East China, which is invested by Shenergy Limited (40%), Huaibei Mining Group Company Limited (Huaibei, Anhui) (40%) and Anhui Energy Group Company Limited (Hefei, Anhui) (20%). According to the approval, plans for the project include building two 660-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired steam turbine generating units, with a total investment of about $950 million in the initial stage.
Prior to the final approval, the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation in September 2012. After that, the engineering contract and the main turbine, generator and boiler equipment supply contract were awarded to East China Electric Power Design Institute (Shanghai) and Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai), respectively.
So far, the main construction contractors and the first three batches of auxiliary equipment for the project have also been awarded; the construction contract for the main powerhouse and the erection contract for Unit 1 and its associated works was awarded to Anhui No.2 Electric Power Engineering & Construction Company Limited (Hefei, Anhui).
According to the schedule, concrete placement for the main works will kick off shortly. The project will be put into operation in the first half of 2015. Upon completion, the project will be able to supply about 6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the East China Power Grid every year via 500-kilovolt transmission lines.
