Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Indian Oil Petronas Private Limited (IPPL) (Kolkata, West Bengal), which is a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (BSE:530965) (New Delhi) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), is constructing a 614-metric-tonne-per-year liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) import and export terminal at Ennore in Tamil Nadu.
IPPL will offer the terminal services for LPG shipments to public sector undertakings. The terminal services mainly include handling, storing and dispatching the LPG cargo. The facility, which has an estimated total investment value of $110.8 million, is expected to be operational by September this year. According to IPPL sources, along with the LPG import-export terminal, the company is looking forward to construction of a refinery and petrochemical complex, along with a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal at Ennore in the future.
The terminal will provide a secure and reliable supply source, helping reduce the LPG deficit and will meet the immediate LPG requirements for the state of Tamil Nadu.
At present, there are two major LPG import terminals in the southern region, which includes a 600 million-ton-per-year terminal at Mangalore on the western coast owned by HPCL, and a 400 million-ton-per-year terminal at Vizag on Eastern Coast, presently under HPCL contract.
IPPL has already commissioned operations at an LPG bottling plant and import-export terminal in Haldia, as well as an LPG import export terminal in Chennai to meet its demand deficit in domestic markets and boost their exports.
