KeySpan Conducts 12-Week Major Outage on 1,028MW Ravenswood Unit 3 in Long Island, New York

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). KeySpan Ravenswood (Long Island, New York), a division of KeySpan Energy, a totally owned subsidiary of KeySpan Corporation (NYSE: KSE) (Brooklyn, New York), is conducting a 12-week outage on its Ravenswood power station Unit 3.

KeySpan started the 12-week maintenance outage on the oil/gas tangential-fired Combustion Engineering (ABB/CE) dry bottom boiler (7.149 million pounds per hour, 2,400psig @ 1050F) and Allis-Chalmers (AC) 1,028-megawatt cross-compound steam turbine/generator on October 11th. During an outage of this magnitude, both the boiler and the turbine/generator get a thorough inspection and major refurbishment that should allow the unit to operate for several years with only cursory inspections. The outage is scheduled to be complete during the first week of January 2003.

A member of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index, KeySpan is the largest distributor of natural gas in the Northeast with 2.5 million customers and more than 13,000 employees. KeySpan is also the largest investor owned electric generator in New York State. KeySpan owns 6,200MW of generating capacity that provides power to 1.1 million customers on Long Island and supplies 25% of New York City's capacity needs. KeySpan also manages a dynamic portfolio of service companies and strategic investments in natural gas exploration, production, pipeline transportation, distribution, storage, and Canadian gas processing. KeySpan has a solid gas distribution business, with 1.7 million customers in New York City and on Long Island, and an additional 800,000 gas customers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
