Mannington Doubling Capacity At Alabama Wood Flooring Plant

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Mannington Floors, Incorporated, a business unit of privately-held Mannington Mills, Incorporated (Salem, New Jersey), is increasing its hardwood flooring manufacturing capacity by increasing the output of hardwood flooring panels at a plant in Epes, Alabama. The company started construction in November 2005 on a $17 million project that will increase the size of the building from 85,000 square feet to just over 200,000 square feet and add some additional equipment. Key components of the project include the installation of a glue and pressing line, finishing equipment, dryer, boiler and a composer. Upon completion at the end of 2005, the plants annual output will increase from 40 million square feet to 80 million square feet.

Operations began at the Epes mill, located in Western Alabama on thirty-three acres in Sumter County, in 1992. Veneer panels are glued together at Epes and are then shipped to a company-owned plant in High Point, North Carolina, for further finishing. The mill employs 105 workers and operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Mannington Mills, Incorporated is one of the largest flooring companies in the U.S. and is the only North American company engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of ceramic tile, vinyl, laminate, and wood floors, as well as commercial vinyl flooring and carpet. Founded in 1915 by John Campbell, the company is still privately held. After nearly ninety years the company continues to pursue its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction through customer-focused product design, state-of-the-art technology, and innovative marketing.
