Maple Energy Shooting for Second-Quarter 2011 Peruvian Ethanol Plant Start-Up

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Maple Energy plc (LSE:MPLE) (San Isidro, Lima, Peru) and subsidiary Maple Etanol SRL (Suliana, Piura) are building a sugar-based fuel ethanol plant in Patia, Piura, Peru. The plant will process about 5,000 tons per day of sugarcane feedstock to produce 35 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol.

The company began construction on the $254 million plant in late 2009. The general contractor is Haug S.A. (Callao, Lima).

To support the plant, some 7,800 hectares of sugarcane from local plantations will be assured success by an irrigation, pipeline and canal system, which will deliver water to 13 drip-irrigation pumping systems that have been installed for the crops.

The plant also includes a 37-megawatt (MW) power plant that will meet the power requirements for the ethanol plant, and an expected 17 MW of power will be sold to the Peruvian national power grid.

A third-party ethanol storage, loading and shipping facility that is owned by Penta Tank Terminals S.A. is also under construction at the Port of Palita to support end product distribution.
