Marathon Oil's Catlettsburg Refinery to Begin Maintenance Turnaround

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Catlettsburg Refining LLC, a subsidiary of Marathon Oil Company (NYSE:MRO) (Houston, Texas), will begin a maintenance turnaround today in the southern portion of the Catlettsburg Refinery in northeastern Kentucky.

The turnaround will entail maintenance on the 83,000-barrel-per-day Crude 5 atmospheric distillation unit, the 18,000-BBL/d naphtha pretreater unit, the cumene unit, and a 20,000-BBL/d continuous catalytic reformer. Some relief valves will be replaced on the crude unit.

The mechanical portion of the turnaround is expected to begin February 14, with completion set for first week of March. An additional turnaround kicked off earlier this week in the northern portion of the refinery. Later this year, planned turnarounds on the refinery's 25,000-BBL/d kerosene hydrodesulfurization unit and 35,000-BBL/d low-pressure VGO hydrotreater unit are also planned in the northern part of the refinery.

Marathon obtained full ownership of the Catlettsburg Refinery in 2005. The facility processes a range of sweet and sour crudes. Products include gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, propane and asphalt, among others.
