Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China was experiencing 11 unplanned offline ethylene plant events and rate cuts amounting to 2.3 billion pounds of ethylene capacity due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, according to IIR Energy's March 10 weekly outlook report.

However, the data for all of East Asia shows that "the actual [planned and unplanned] offline capacity this year compared to last is pretty close, suggesting the access to capacity is bad, but not much worse than it has been in the last five years," said Trey Hamblet, Industrial Info's vice president of research for the Chemical Processing Industry.
