Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Famed for its display of natural beauty as the autumn season unfolds, the New England Region is also poised to make a colorful show of industrial project spending. From the beginning of September 2005 through the end of the year, 44 capital and MRO (Maintenance) projects are scheduled to start construction. Every state in the region, which is comprised of Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts, is anticipating new project activity.
Massachusetts is currently the project-spending leader in terms of total investment value (TIV), with $591 million worth of spending expected to start before years end. Boston is the site for construction of the Joslin Diabetes Centers $200 million research center expansion. As reported in Industrialinfo.coms Pharmaceutical Tracker - Online Database, the center was designed by Tsoi/Kobus & Associates (Cambridge, Massachusetts) and Boston Properties was awarded the development contract for the project, which will feature 350,000 square-feet of research space. The Gillette Company also tapped the city of Boston for an upgrade of their 24-building plant site to the tune of $200 million. Diversified Project Management out of Newton, Massachusetts, was selected to handle the construction.
Vermont placed second in the New England Region for spending, anticipating $100 million in project starts. The largest scheduled to kick off is a $60 million nuclear station 107 megawatt (MW) uprate in Vernon. Connecticut and Maine tied for third in spending, with both states expecting $93 million in projects to begin before the end of the year. Tiny Rhode Island is due for $57 million worth of activity, followed by New Hampshires $2 million.
