Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Huntley Generating Station, located in Tonawanda, New York, shut down Unit 68 on Sunday evening, December 15. The 217-megawatt (MW), coal-fired unit was forced offline due to a steam leak in the turbine. The station is owned and operated by NRG Energy (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey).
Two days earlier, the unit had been returned online after a lengthy planned outage that had started in October.
Officials said that they have a team of turbine specialist arriving today to analyze and investigate the steam leak. They said that they expect the outage to be brief, depending on the outcome of the investigation. Officials expect the unit to return online Thursday, December 19, if there are no delays.
The Huntley plant has two generating units and a total generating capacity of 488 megawatts when at full load. Unit 67 continues to operate at full capacity.
