Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Nippon Paper Group (TYO:3893) (Tokyo, Japan) and subsidiary Nippon Paper Industries USA Company Limited (Port Angeles, Washington) have selected Factory Sales & Engineering Incorporated (Covington, Louisiana) as their engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the boiler manufacturer on a biomass-fired power project, which is being performed at a mill in Port Angeles, Washington.
The companies are still waiting for permits to be approved, which is expected by June of this year. The major components for the 225,000-pound-per-hour boiler island have been purchased, and construction is expected to be in full swing by July 2011. The existing boiler was installed in the 1950s.
The boiler upgrade is part of the $71 million biomass-fired cogeneration plant, which will provide electricity and steam to the mill. The GE turbine generator will produce 20 megawatts of electricity and process steam.
Carlson Small Power Consultants (Redding, California) has been consulting Nippon on the project, and AMEC E&C (Vancouver, British Columbia) was awarded the design work and balance of plant services.
Construction is expected to be completed and tested by mid-2012.
Nippon produces 155,000 tons per year of lightweight, uncoated mechanical paper for telephone directories and other commercial products, using recycled newspapers and telephone directories, and locally available residual sawmill fiber.
