NPPD Begins Construction of Beatrice Combined-Cycle Power Station in Nebraska

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Nebraska Public Power District (Columbus, Nebraska) has initiated construction of the 229 megawatt Beatrice Combined-Cycle Power Station located in Beatrice, Nebraska in Gage County. As a combined-cycle power station, Beatrice will help protect NPPD against unplanned power outages, and future electrical growth demands for Gage County.

The station will consist of two GE Power Systems MS7001EA's (often referred to as Frame 7's) combustion turbines and an Alstom steam turbine, all of which will operate in a combined-cycle configuration. This design opens the plant up to greater flexibility during peak demand periods.

NPPD awarded the owner's engineering contract to Utility Engineering Corporation headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Utility Engineering Corporation (UE) is a wholly owned, non-regulated subsidiary of Xcel Energy Inc. Utility Engineering provides engineering, design, procurement, construction management, start-up, commissioning, and project development services to the power generation industry, including modification projects and O&M services.

The general construction contract was awarded to The Industrial Company (TIC) based out of Steamboat, Colorado. TIC has extensive experience involving a variety of different technologies, fuel types, and configurations. TIC has proven to be a highly diversified industrial contractor, involved in all major industrial markets.
