The following is an advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). NRG Energy Incorporated (NYSE: NRG) (Minneapolis, Minn.), one of the world's leading Private Energy Producers (PEP), has commenced construction on a 1,200 mega-watt (MW) natural gas merchant power plant in Holmesville, Mississippi.

The Pike county power plant, located off I-55 in Holmesville Industrial Park, was designed and engineered by Stone and Webster (Houston, Texas). Shaw Constructors (Baton Rouge, La.) are serving as the general contractor for the $450 million project. The plant will provide merchant power generation to the grid and will consist of four General Electric (GE) combustion turbines, four heat recovery steam generators (HRSG's) plus two GE steam turbines.

The completion of the first 600MW of power generation is planned for the summer of 2003, while the additional 600MW of power is scheduled to come on line in the fourth quarter of 2003. Once on line, the plant will employ approximately 20 people. A second plant in the southwest region of the United States is scheduled to come on line in the summer of 2002.

NRG Energy currently has over 23,300MW of generating power either in operation or under construction globally. North American plants are located in the northeastern, southern, mid-west and west coast regions of the United States.

NRG Energy was founded in 1989 and is one the largest independent power producers. The company employs approximately 13,000 individuals worldwide and has ownership in over 65 operational coal, gas, and oil-fired power plants. Xcel Energy (NYSE: XEL) (Minneapolis, MN) owns 74% of NRG.
